Thank you for this. Really.
Always for the art of it. Never for the accolades. Also, meeting new people always rules.
love this comment. also, is this a prism? amazing shot!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I wish more people thought this way 🙂 I’ll second Danielle’s comment, always for the art of it!
Thank you for this post
Haven’t experiment double exposure before
W O W
This is so so gorgeous!!!
This is one thing I’ve been working on, shooting from the soul rather than shooting to think about fame, acclaim or going viral — sometimes it’s a battle, but remember that it’s not about you.
Kenny Ng it’s a single click 😉
Sam Hurd Photography wad… How? 😮
Do weddingwire awards count?
this is awesome Sam Hurd
Sounds like something “Chris in the Morning” would say… 🙂 Miss that show.
I’m not surprised, but I think a lot of us needed to hear this from someone like you. Thanks Sam Hurd
David Norman this is unreal creativity
Love it all..
Aiming for worthwhile, properly curated and judged awards (of which there are very few) is fine so long as the original intention was to create the best work you could for your client, first and yourself, second. 90% of award bodies are commercially driven, badly judged and perpetuate hype. #pathoftheuniquelyconformist
I’ve decided not to chase awards
Reason #27 why I no longer participate in photo competitions. I don’t need some third party that has no idea what I’m trying to do with my work signing off on whether it’s any good or not.
Great shot! How did you get the tree tops mirrored to the bottom of the image?
What lens do you use primarily for prisming??
Kenny Ng my guess is an iphone reflection
Aww man! What about all those without fear awards that only a few hundred photographers get every sunday afternoon?
Might be prism 😉
How was this done?!
Wow, mic drop.
Jesus faz isso cmg hj não 😍
Picture quality looks reeeeeal bad
O cara vai além de uma máquina de fotografia na mão
does it tho? it’s 32,000 ISO. that’s – 3 zeros. i also took a cleaner one with a standard long exposure.
not to mention the b&w possibilities.
Jonathan Maréchaux iso 32000 sur le d5
et oui c’est dla bombe 😉
Ben c’est pas clean clean tt de meme
Je suis pas bluffé
a merde je regardai pas la bonne tof lol
Looks like a mark 3 at 800
I think for 32.000 ISO it actually looks REALLY good. Must be honest and tell you that I like the long exposure one better though…
Sam Hurd Photography would you please share the exposure data for the long exposure ? I just find it amazing and it will be really helpful!
I think it looks amazing for 32000
Iriz Laura (y)
Iriz Laura me too, but it’s not as interesting to discuss 🙂
Matter of fact this is an amazing photo all together! You killed it Sam!
Sam Hurd Photography Hahahahaha…. true!
at least we know its possible so we will give it a try 🙂
It looks good. It doesn’t look like noise but actually post-processing grain. For someone who knows (from a technical perspective), you can tell details were lost. I think the key here is the ability to be able take a photo like this, sans tripod. It definitely keeps the flow of the session moving.
My cam can’t reach that high iso 😭
This is SO beautiful! <3 the grain gives it a beautiful film look! <3
Douglas, I second that. The quality of this image at iso 32,000 is pretty great. We hardly ever shoot over iso 4,000. So sad! lol
For 32000 to even be usable is wild. Sam’s really experimenting with its possibilities, which is helpful for all of us.
A lot of likes and people praising your work on social media also feeds anyone’s EGO… #justsaying
Of course, but you have to show work to get work
Or if you’ve figured out a way around that I’d love to hear it
Wow, really, for iso 32000 this photograph is amazing. What camera do you use if I may know?
He said, Nikon D5
Exactly, Nikon d5
The grain don’t even bother me, damn
Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist.
Johannes Schimpfhauser wie gesagt
Pretty insane…..i wish i was i Nikon user 🙂
Why i have to make the wedding picture of my life @ 32000 iso?I just think there is no reason. There is a light out there that never goes out .
Sam Hurd Photography I have all day to make pictures with my couple.I have sunset, i have blue hour. Why i have to take pictures in the absolut dark?I really appreciate your work but this is all numbers. How many pictures we have in our folio @ 32000 iso and why?
Maybe the couple had a wedding going on and found the time a little later. As a wedding photographer you just adapt to the situation and use your tools the way you have to. 🙂
John Kilpasis agreed. As much as i love sams pictures – it seems to me that it tends more and more to insane Numbers. ISO 500,000 ?? Come on ? In five years people will say that they are unable to shoot in the dark with the D5 because the ISO will be not high enough😳
Matthias Römer what are you guys talking about? who cares if you have more situations and environments that you can make useable photos in? why is that ever a bad thing??? John Kilpasis why make photos in the absolute dark? Because very few people do and why wouldn’t you want to strive for something different??
Matthias Römer you guys do realize that people used to shoot no more than 3200 EVER, right? even then it’d only be for black and white. The amount of images new sensors have enabled is mind boggling when I think about how often I shoot at iso 4000, 5000, 6400 etc etc because images could not be made otherwise.
I shoot dark church weddings at 12,800 all year long because I don’t like to use flash (ETA: during ceremonies because it is disruptive and often not allowed). I love that I don’t need a tripod and that I can still shoot at about 1/300s and have clear captures with no shake and beautiful/minimal grain with the D5. Why do I do that? Because I can.
Do you need to?
Jay Cassario sure, sometimes. Do you sometimes need to use flash? F1.4? 1/60th?
Sam Hurd, that is one way to look at it
but no grains, that is impressive.
ofc there is grain… but still…
hope to learn more from your experiences. Thank you so much.
Guille, pide que te mande la ampli al 100%
Is it ok when it comes to print ? @ sam
ordering one now, but it’ll depend on the print size. i’m betting up to 5×7 it’ll be fine, but not holding my breathe for any larger
I would say that you shot on Canon.
Canon has a colour in the noise, Nikon does not.
There’s colour noise in this image
I dont see any colour noise…
Alberto Lopez guess youre colour-noise blind? 😀
This is beautiful
woow man, nice… exif? <3
Yeah this ones better
finally, you tease.. Sam Hurd Photography
So how many stops is this one pushed? I am amazed.
water reflection + prism?
It’s OK I s’pose…………
Or only AMAZEBALLS
Josué P. Canobbio la d5 ¬¬
👏👏👏 0 ruido!! 😬
Oh dude….Please tell me it was not a one-click foto…. Unless you want to blow my mind off the charts…
One click man!!
No photoshopping or anything just my normal tone curve processing etc
What?! Howwww! What settings and lens 😱😍
Oh man…the lighting in this one is so refined that it hurts. And thanks for having blown my mind 💣
ISO, MM, F, SS. Give us the numbers please!!
How do you do this?!? it’s beautiful
Monica Burgstiner this is the dude I was telling you about!!!
Following. So awesome!!
Hahaha. I love that Sam Hurd HIMSELF liked my comment! 😉 #awesomesauce
The only thing I enjoy more than great photography is deconstructing great photography. Usually I use the curve of the human eye as a window into the the great lighting behind a shot although you can’t do that at night. All the same, I figured this one fairly quickly but your approach was one I had not considered. Thanks for inspiring your peers!
Anderson Pagani e ai?
Foda demais.
Oh. Now I see what you are doing. Kudos
